pregnant: A couple of questions....

26 weeks with my first

Hello ladies
Just a couple of quick questions for you....

1) I would really *REALLY* like to have a baby shower - but I don't have anyone to throw one for me (my family all live in the UK and I am in Canada), I have colleagues at work that have mentioned it but I don't really see it happening. Is it an ok thing to throw your own shower with your husband? I was thinking we might have a "babyshower bbq" and we can invite both his and my friends. Do guys usually attend baby showers? any ideas what we can do at the shower and any ideas for wording the invitations because lets face it I would love to receive gifts (or gift cards for babiesRus) but don't know how to ask for people to bring a gift - I dont want to seem greedy!

which leads me to my second question...

2) I made?a registry, despite knowing I will buy most of the stuff myself! We have a fair amount of things so far but im wondering what else I need? what would you consider a neccessity and what am I missing?

So far we have:
A crib (no mattress yet) and large dresser
Moses basket and stand (she will sleep in our room at first)
2 small nightlights
tons of clothing and blankets (including hats, socks, scratch mits etc)
a travel stroller (detachable car seat)
diaper bag with changing mat
baby carrier we can both wear
breast pump kit
about 10/12 bottles, bottle sterilizer (does pacifiers too), bottle warmer, bottle brush (so hubby can do night feedings), pacifiers
formula (that we got for free, but I plan to breastfeed)
diapers size 1 and 2, wipes, 1 bottle of diaper cream
baby brush and comb, baby shampoo and wash, body lotion
baby bath and washcloths
toys and books

What else I think we need:
large changing mat to strap to the dresser
small changing mats for around the house
mattress and sheet set with crib mobile
swaddle blankets, hooded towels, bibs
diaper pail
stroller weather shield, sun screens for the car to block out the sun
baby care set with thermometer, nail clippers etc
a swing, high chair (do I need one yet?), bouncer
baby monitor

so does this sound about right? is there anything I need that ive forgotten or anything I dont neccessarily need to get?
