American consumer electronics major Apple is planning to open two new retail outlets in China. The flagship stores will be located in the cities of Chengdu and Shenzhen.
Chengdu High-Tech Zone's development planning bureau head Tang Jiqiang was quoted by China Daily as saying that Apple was invited by Chengdu Mayor Ge Honglin to open a store in the city.
The retailer has also submitted documents to the local government seeking permission to open another store in Holiday Plaza located in Shenzhen's Nanshan district.
Currently, Apple is fighting with a Chinese company over the use of the iPad trademark in Guangdong Provincial High People's Court.
With the opening of these two planned outlets, Apple's store count in China will grow to eight. As of now, there are two stores in Beijing, three in Shanghai and one in Hong Kong. In the US, Apple has more than 250 retail outlets.
In 2008, the firm opened its first mainland store in Beijing. After more than three years, China is the source of about 10% of the retailer's sales revenue, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
